Iranian ‘Exam’ to go on screen at FIFOG filmfest in Geneva

The 2021 Geneva Int’l Oriental filmfest in Switzerland is to screen Iranian short ‘Exam’.

The 16th edition of the Geneva International Oriental Film Festival (FIFOG) in Switzerland has been scheduled to screen Iranian short flick ‘Exam’.

Directed by Sonia Haddad, the short film narrates the story of a girl named Sadaf who has forebodings for the exam she is going to take.

But today, instead of going to school, she delivers a package of illegal drugs to a client and gets caught in a weird cycle of events.

Set to compete at the 24th Brussels Short Film Festival in Belgium, ‘Exam’ has already grabbed some awards such as the international student jury award at the BRNO16 International Short Film Festival in the Czech Republic, the AFI fest award which made the title qualified for the short film category of the 2021 Oscars, and the award for Best Live Action Short Film at the Tirana International Film Festival in Albania.

The 15-minute film is “a simple story that has illustrated enough about the position of women and youngsters against authority and repression. For its everlasting effect and progressive change of emotion, for its surprising cycle of events, for its lead teenager actress and her weary fatigued distinguished face that carried the story until a poignant closure,” the jury of the Tirana International Film Festival wrote.

The upcoming edition of the FIFOG will host around 40 films from all genres.

As the situation caused by COVID-19 made filmmakers work in a difficult context, the FIFOG chose this theme to bring them more hope “Hope… a little, a lot, passionately”.

The 2021 edition of the event is slated for June 21-27.
